School started for us over a week ago. The full swing of school is slowly creeping in with the homework ramping up.
Our garden has been a mixed bag this year: We had a fair amount of peas, better than last year's measly showing. We thought last year's pumpkins were sad but this year the squash bugs came out of nowhere and we only managed two small pumpkins, just enough for a couple of pumpkin pies. We harvested some sunflower seeds and roasted them. We've had two dinners with fresh corn on the cob and one with fresh green beans and I may get one more dinner with each but the corn also got hit with some kind of caterpillar or worm. The top third of the cob sometimes has to be chopped off.
The potatos we planted ....well they are puny. I think the heat killed them all off once and now some new shoots have sprouted again, so maybe we'll get something in the fall. Most of the flower seeds I started in my basement never got going once I planted them outside. I still don't know if it was the soil, too much water, not enough water.
Oh well. It's all experimental. I'm not a pro at this. I'm learning at a snail's pace. That's okay for now. It'll take years to improve this dirt and maybe by then I'll have more skills.
Have a good week!
