Friday Movie Night: Where's my whip?

A clip from the original, (beware there is gruesome death involved as well as native thongs) or if you prefer...

A more child-friendly sanitized version.

The Lego one is cute but somehow Harrison Ford just doesn't look the same. :)

Funny you should post Indiana Jones this week. Last Wednesday, I decided to go to a colloquium that the Physics Department at BYU does every Wednesday. A speaker comes and explains a physics area or an astronomy area to the students. I have always served refreshments at colloquium, but I never got to attend one until last Wednesday. Last Wednesday's speaker was a guy named Jack Weyland from BYU-Idaho. His lecture focused on physics mistakes in the movies. He showed clips from several movies making dumb mistakes, like water sinking in water when in reality it floats, etc. Dr. Weyland showed this exact clip from Indiana Jones. He chided the part where a bag a sand is heavier than a gold idol when, really, gold is much heavier. Jones thinks the bag of sand is still too heavy and lets some out. He swaps the now very light bag of sand with the idol, and, lo and behold, it's still too heavy! Bwaaahaaahaaa! He also mentioned the flying darts from the side which supposedly were shot using air pressure. He said, "I guess some semi-truck came by earlier to replenish the booby traps." It was hilarious. I'll never look at the scene the same way again.
